Beauty transcends images; sometimes it is hidden in memories, other times it is found in the pure expression of a calm soul and passionate individual. The latter best describes the bliss that caressed our lives and kissed our soul when we interviewed Doofan Wilma Tar: a natural beauty adorned with such simplicity that only the best words can qualify. With a positive vibe flowing back and forth while we asked her about her journey into skin and hair care, she eased us into her world with humour, openness and humility. Telling us how being natural is a divine and liberating feeling, she answered our questions without holding back any helpful tip.
In one word, how would you define your skin?
Phenomenal!
Share your morning skin routine with us?
This starts from my inside; I drink a glass of water first. Then I proceed to splash water on my face to awaken my senses then I go ahead to:
- Cleanse
- Tone
- Moisturize
- Mist, and I am all set for a brilliant day.
What are the products you use consistently to make your skin phenomenal?
– Using clean and clear morning burst facial cleanser
– Using the Oreke by Dami tea tree + Neem purifying toner
– I use a sunscreen protector Neutrogena Hydro boost water gel lotion
– Using the Mayanga hydrating face mist
Let’s talk about your hair. How often do you rock it naturally?
To be honest this year I haven’t rocked my hair out at all.
Is that a personal choice or as a result of constraint in your schedule?
This has been a personal choice I wanted to grow out my hair and edges this year and I’ll say this has been going great at least have seen some improvement in growth.
Based on your experience, how can anyone get to know their skin and hair’s need?
I feel the first this is to kick out the comparison from your life and love yourself (basically the hair and skin God has blessed you with). This helped me fall in love with my hair and skin colour.
Know what you like (I mean products) and create a routine and from there you can ascertain what works and doesn’t work from there.
What methods do you use in choosing the products you use?
I’m a lover of all this natural and organic so it’s easy for me to find my square root. All things natural from Shea butter to coconut oils to essential oils.
What advice do you have for people who are finding it difficult to come to terms with their type of skin?
Take a deep breath and think this God has a plan for everything. He made you that colour for a reason. Why not embrace it? I know social media makes things worse by giving us a perception of ourselves that’s false, but we have to find a way to starve your distractions and feed your focus (which could be great skin and healthy hair) and no matter what you stick to that goal.
How does someone stay conscious when it comes to skin, hair and beauty; and not get carried away?
What’s your motivation? Like I said earlier starve your distractions and feed your focus. This year I started out by giving out all my make up because I wanted to ride on attaining flawless skin and healthy hair, so I would not eat wrong, sleep late or involve myself with things that are hazardous to my goals and I’ll say that has helped me with my goal. I also put my mind consistently in my routine.
Your Instagram page is absolute goals. Can you share any posting tips?
Thanks so much.
Scheduling and curating content is fun with the right apps like Planoly and canvas. They help me pop.
Your Instagram feed and highlights show off your travels all over for work. Do you have any tips or tricks on how to do skincare/haircare on the go?
Travel excites me so once I have to travel I have to research the place, is it cold or hot, rainy or sunny and then work on my mini travel products to suit each climate. (Mini just because I’m not relocating, I’ll be back soon) e.g. if it’s really sunny plenty SPF.
What is your advice for people who want to start getting more into skincare but are so used to piling up makeup?
Love your skin; show your skin love by letting it breathe. I’ll say start small. E.g. Don’t sleep with makeup on. Take your pre-makeup and post make up care seriously.
What inspired you to start a skincare/haircare (Instagram) blog?
God, the sense of purpose was calling me. Lol. I wanted to create a platform where individuals can be themselves and love it. Help them implement and tap into the natural way of life
Is it just a daily expression of your lifestyle or is it a full-fledged business?
It’s both basically; a lifestyle that pays. I haven’t got to where I’ll love to be in terms of pay but I’m pushing hard.
What does promoting the African heritage through skincare mean to you?
It shows a sense of responsibility. God put me on earth, in this skin colour for a reason and I intend to live it and love it.
Ever gone makeup-free, for how long?
Yes and its 10 months and counting; longest ever. I have a wedding soon so a face beat is coming soon
How does your skin feel when you’re not wearing any makeup?
It’s the sweetest feeling ever I feel light and free.
What advice do you have for people who love makeup but want to tone it down?
I will say, tone it down.
What are your best tips for treating hyperpigmentation?
Avoid the sun, if you must use SPF and green tea. I’m a tea girl and green tea is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Do you use any mask products?
Yes, I use a great purifying glow mask by a brand @withloveKeju
Have you checked our Instagram page, what do you think about us?
Lovely page and great work. Educating and enlightening your audience on great skincare.
What’s your favourite skincare product?
I’ll say black soap
Final words: Love yourself and be kind to another.
